      Holly Jolly Market

Starting on December 6 the Black Mountain Center for the Arts (BMCA) keeps its doors open until 8pm to accommodate the revelers of the community wide Holly Jolly celebration. The building located at 225 W. State Street will be teeming with activity on the two upper floors. On the top level, the Upper Gallery opens with the Clay Studio Exhibit featuring the best work of students and faculty working in the BMCA Clay studio. This exhibit runs through December 20.
Across the hall potters will have hundreds of pieces available for sale at the Holiday Pottery Market. This is the perfect time to pick up last minute gifts, stocking stuffers, ornaments, jewelry and teacher gifts.
On the theater level, a Youth Maker Market will be in full swing with children ages 8-16 putting their handmade items and entrepreneurial spirits on display. Ten local children will be selling goods they created themselves including paracord bracelets, specialty pencils, Zentangle art, postcards, watercolor art, bumper stickers and a wide variety of holiday ornaments.
Local authors will share the theater space to introduce the community to a variety of fiction and non-fiction books for sale. Authors include Shelly Frome with The Secluded Village Murders, Jeff Hutchins offering Denton the Dragon in Tales of Bubbleland, David LaMotte sharing Worldchanging 101: Challenging the Myth of Powerlessness and White Flour, Nancy Poling with While Earth Still Speaks and Before It Was Legal: a black-white marriage (1945-1987), also David Madden, Mamie Hilliard, Nonny Hogroian, David Kherdian and Jerry Pope.
Down the hill by the Old Depot more than 100 BMCA Dancers led by instructor Amy Maze will make the street a stage starting at 6:30 pm. This adorable display of skill and enthusiasm will be shared with the Owen High Dance Team.
