      Join Justin Cook, Joel Graves, Madison Parker and Kau’i Moorehead at Wayback Wilderness Survival School – October 11-14, 2019 for a primitive living skills camp in the tidal swamps of Northern Escambia County at scenic Becks Lake Fish Camp; the gateway to the Escambia River. Enjoy 350 acres of hardwood forests and blackwater creeks full of panfish, catfish, turtles and alligators. This unique environment has both tropical and temperate elements and is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in primitive wilderness survival skills. We will spend the entire duration of the class time in the woods or on the water. we will share a common shelter and living space, eat together, camp together and will be focusing entirely on primitive living and coming together as a TRIBE the best we can. Expect to learn the basics of Stone Age survival, especially flintknapping, fiber craft, and friction fire.Will discuss the anthropological and archaeological record, geology, geography and hope to create a connection with the land. Students can also expect to learn detailed knowledge about plants, animals, folklore and will be exposed to a variety of hunting, fishing, and trapping information in this class Topics covered: The Paiute and Y-Bone deadfall learn to make several types of simple, versatile and effective traps make a clay pot make a wooden bowl boil water in both make a fishhook/gorge that will catch a fish make a fishing gig make and throw an Atl Atl make an Arrow- make a stone knife (knapping) make cordage make a hand drill fire by friction use a bow drill how to make a net make a fish trap Preserve Game by Smoking process acorns identify wild edibles cook fish over the fire Camping is completely primitive and will require you to walk in, we will share responsibilities to create a community atmosphere. Food is not provided- we encourage you to bring a minimum of food Items, we will have ample opportunity to fish and gather, we recommend trail mix and real food such as sweet potatoes, fruit, wild game, — natural items to stay in sync with the primitive camp, expect some foods as such to be available and provided. Part of the focus of this class is to create an authentic experience. Suggested Materials : Knife or machete, backpack containing: hammock, or tarp. nylon string or twine. 32 oz stainless steel bottle, steel cup, 2 bandannas, headlamp, notebook, Sturdy shoes, clothes for camping, assorted small to large hooks, cooking pot, personal first aid supplies and personal medications. Bug spray. Don’t over pack! You will be required to carry this gear to several locations on the property – bring a camera, be prepared to get earthy! Dress comfortably- but dress for outdoor work.
