Nikole Hannah-Jones, creator of the New York Times's 1619 Project, will give a talk, “1619 and the Legacy That Built a Nation.” The 1619 Project, which includes a multi-episode podcast hosted by her, is an ongoing initiative from the New York Times Magazine that aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the center of the national narrative. The 1619 Project began on August 20, 2019, the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery, with the publication of an issue of the New York Times Magazine devoted to the goal of re-examining the legacy of slavery in the United States.
