Virginia State Parks History and Culture Day

Experience more than just the natural beauty of our parks at this program. Explore the fascinating stories behind our parks by attending a ranger led program on Virginia State Parks History and Culture Day. At Natural Bridge, enjoy an 11 a.m. walk along Cedar Creek Trail under the bridge to learn about the legends and stories that surround the Bridge, from its role as a spiritual site for the Monacans to the infamous George Washington's initials carved under the arch. Cedar Creek Trail is accessed through the main Visitor Center. No additional fee, but admission still applies. At 1 p.m., rangers will lead a 1.5 mile hike on Buck Hill Trail to look at a grove of chestnut trees and discuss how the quasi-extinction of these trees caused an ecological collapse that changed the Appalachian Mountains and the people that lived here forever. Parking lot for Buck Hill Trail is at the Natural Bridge Caverns. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. Bring water. For more information about the park and programs, call us at (540) 291-1330. ***Location Detail: Multiple locations, see description
